Poorly with cold and watching Alan Titchmarsh’s lunchtime programme: there was a cooking spot about the less popular meat offerings that used to be part of everyones diet…the long and short of it was a trip to the local butcher and half a pound of lambs kidney (sorry vegans) …cost a staggering £1.78!! so of course some bacon and sausage and mushrooms and green beans next door….the end result a couple of awsome breakfasts and this super risotto…for the squemish take the kidney bits out….the taste is awsome…recipie amended with adding cut green beans and substituting red wine.

It’s so awsome to have so much meat for just over a fiver!! Kids would probably love it with salad and garlic bread…kidney copped up small with no white hard bits…adults a sophisticated lunch or supper…

I’m not sure about liver…over to you…

Not necessarily at breakfast of course…but thats because left over can dregs aren’t cool…

It’s not washed down with wine, because you can’t take anything in glass bottles to a festie, and wine doesn’t come in cans…
Coffee is a similar dilema, but tea is not.

Fresh fruit is strange unless you take it with you (tinned isn’t) and veg is available cooked in trays or pots with noodles or rice or spuds with delicious sauces at exorbitant prices…but us worth it for the taste especially if you have been raised on McDonalds and various other types of shredded cooked cardboard.

So balancing budgets means heating first…
Sunday morning…posh breakfast?? Try a ‘festival favourite’ an alternative to the very posh Eggs Benedict thats expensive as it uses two eggs to poach and more for the sauce for each person….this is a german breakfast adaptation and could let you ski all day.
1 potato diced into 1/2 cm cubes
Two handfuls cooked macaroni
1/2 pt Strong flavoured cheese sauce
Anything else you want to add..
Veggie…smokey tofu, nuts
Carniv…cooked bacon, ham, smoked salmon
Quartered tomatoes
small slice onion v finely chooped
Herbs
Fry the potato’s till crisp and golden, add the cookd macaroni, onion, herbs, tomato, ham or tofu
warm through…put on a plate with kitchen paper to drain…place in an ovenproof dish, add hot cheese sauce…top with parmesan salt pepper…place under a hot grill till the top is crisp
Serve on hot muffins or toast
…whats the german for ‘voila’

Cheese sauce…microwave dessert sp cornflour (not flour its too heavy) with dessert sp butter…mix to a paste, add third pint milk stir bring to boil in microwave, add 2-3 oz v strong cheese back in the microwave to melt it to a sauce…

Cheap and cheerful lots calories very good bfast or lunch with salad for cold winter days…

Festie food because it makes a little go a long way….
